Building confidence in your care teams

High-quality foot health provision does not depend solely on your podiatrist.

It depends on care teams having the knowledge and confidence to recognise concerns, support residents appropriately and know when to escalate potential problems.

As part of the Foot Health Assurance Framework™, we provide practical education and ongoing support designed specifically for care home teams.

By improving staff awareness and confidence, care providers can identify concerns earlier, improve consistency and help reduce avoidable complications.

Confident staff are one of the most effective tools in improving foot health outcomes.

Why Is Training Important?

Our podiatrists may visit every 6–8 weeks, but care teams support residents every day.

This means care staff are often the first people to notice:

• Changes in mobility

• New pain or discomfort

• Skin breakdown

• Swelling

• Changes in circulation

• Signs of infection

• Footwear concerns

• Potential falls risks

The earlier these issues are recognised, the sooner appropriate action can be taken.

Training Topics May Include
Falls Prevention & Foot Health

Understanding the evidence linking foot health and falls risk, and how simple foot health interventions can help improve stability, confidence and mobility.

Foot Strength & Mobility Exercises

Practical exercises designed to improve toe strength, ankle mobility, balance and gait, helping residents remain active and independent for longer.

Gait & Walking Observation

Helping staff recognise changes in walking patterns that may indicate pain, weakness, foot pathology or increased falls risk.

Diabetic Foot Awareness

Recognising warning signs, understanding risk factors and knowing when urgent escalation is required.

Skin Integrity & Pressure Prevention

Identifying early signs of pressure damage, callus formation, fissures and skin breakdown before complications develop.

Footwear & Falls Risk

Understanding how poorly fitting footwear can contribute to pain, instability, pressure damage and falls.

Early Identification & Escalation

Knowing when a resident requires podiatry assessment and understanding appropriate escalation pathways.

Everyday Foot Health Support

Simple interventions care teams can use between podiatry visits to support comfort, mobility and overall foot health.
